Day-by-Day Itinerary

Day 1
Taipei – Route 3 – Sun Moon Lake
Head south on Route 3 through Miaoli and Puli, then join the scenic Route 21 through the mountains to reach the iconic Sun Moon Lake in Nantou.

Day 2
Wenwu Temple – Alishan Road – Tataka Twin Trees, Tainan
Circuit the lake to Wenwu Temple, then climb the famous Alishan mountain road to the ancient Tataka twin cypress trees in primeval forest. Descend to historic Tainan for the night.

Apowann Pass – Yujing Mango Ice – Pingtung Coast Highway, Kenting
Tackle the Apowann mountain pass, cool down with Yujing's famous mango shaved ice, then ride the sweeping Pingtung coastal highway to Kenting — Taiwan's southernmost resort town.

Day 4
Longpan Park – Xuhai – Dawu – Duoliang Station, Taitung
Clifftop grasslands at Longpan, wild coast at Xuhai, and the scenic South-Link railway viewpoint at Duoliang — often called Taiwan's most beautiful station. Arrive at Taitung.

Hua-Dong Valley – Southern Cross-Island Highway – Guanshan Pass (2,722m), Chiayi
The flat, ruler-straight Hua-Dong Valley road gives way to the thrilling Southern Cross-Island Highway. Climb to Guanshan Pass at 2,722m for breathtaking mountain vistas, then descend to Chiayi.

Route 3 North – Jiji Station – Wuling Summit (Taiwan's Highest Road), Lishan
Stop at the charming wooden Jiji Station, then conquer Wuling — Taiwan's highest paved road — at 3,275m. The descent to pear-orchard Lishan is equally spectacular.

Taroko Ilan Branch – Fangatian Clay-Pot Chicken – Kavalan Whisky Distillery, Yilan Onsen
Descend through Taroko's Ilan branch pass with mountain-farm scenery, then enjoy Yilan's famous clay-pot chicken and tour the award-winning Kavalan whisky distillery. End the day soaking in a hot-spring hotel.

Lanyang Museum – San Diaojiao Lighthouse – Jiufen Old Street – Bike Return, Xinzhuang
Visit the striking Lanyang Museum, reach Taiwan's easternmost point at San Diaojiao lighthouse, then wander the lantern-lit lanes and tea houses of Jiufen. Return bikes at Honga Xinzhuang and close the circle.

- Route includes high-altitude sections (Wuling 2,700m+). Difficulty ★★★☆☆; mountain and long-distance riding experience recommended.
